Corzine’s spending plan
Below is another case of the Schools Development Authority considering demolishing a school building that could be renovated. I posted prior on the Oliver Street School slated for the wrecking ball and linked to some photos showing the architecture.
According to the Star-Ledger, “Authority officials are also considering scrapping plans to renovate Newark’s West Side High School in favor of a plan to build a new high school on the same site”. One can view photos of this school (second school down) and see the solid brick structure. According to the site, “A stately Federal design, it sits on a handsome lawn and appears well-tended. The central entrance is flanked by sturdy Corinthian pilasters with a relief of the Newark City Seal in the pediment.”
This is part of Governor Corzine’s “strategy to stimulate the New Jersey economy”. Trying to create jobs with borrowed taxpayer funds is basically counterproductive. This is only a shell game as monies are shifted from one entity to another, and it rings of a social program. Of course the state gets their cut in the form of income and sales taxes from the labor force.
